The Children’s Book Bank Needs Your Donations!
The Children’s Book Bank exists to put as many books as possible into the hands and lives of children in need. By providing opportunities for children to read and be read to, the Children’s Book Bank is an important tool in improving school readiness for prekindergarten-aged children and enhancing literacy in school-aged children.
An important study shows the most successful way to improve the reading achievement of low-income children is to increase their access to print.
In middle-income neighborhoods the ratio of books per child is 13 to 1; in low-income neighborhoods the ratio is a staggering 1 (age appropriate) book for every 300 children.
PMARA RETIREES – BRING YOUR DONATIONS OF NEW OR LIKE-NEW CHILDREN’S BOOKS TO OUR JULY, AUGUST, SEPTEMBER or OCTOBER MEETING. THE VOLUNTEER SERVICES COMMITTEE WILL SEE THAT THEY’RE DELIVERED TO THE CHILDREN’S BOOK BANK.
